Bamboo Surveys and Written Reports in South Wales

A bamboo survey establishes what is actually growing on a property, how far its rhizome system has spread and what — if anything — needs to be done about it. We carry out surveys across South Wales for homeowners, buyers, sellers, landlords and managing agents, and issue a written report that can be shared with a surveyor, lender or solicitor.
What the survey covers
- Species identification — whether the bamboo is a running (leptomorph) or clumping (pachymorph) type, since this largely determines the spread risk.
- Rhizome mapping — investigative digging at the margins of the stand and along boundaries, paths and walls to find how far rhizomes extend beyond the visible canes.
- Proximity to structures — distance to the house, extensions, outbuildings, patios, drains and neighbouring property, and any visible signs of displacement.
- Ground conditions — soil type, drainage and any barriers or hard landscaping that may have channelled growth.
- Photographs and a site sketch so the extent is documented on the day.
What you receive
Within a few working days you receive a written report setting out the species, the mapped extent, the risk factors we observed and our recommended course of action — monitoring, a herbicide programme, excavation, or a combination. Where a property transaction is involved the report can be paired with a bamboo management plan. Lender and insurer requirements vary, so we recommend checking with your lender or solicitor what they will accept before instructing a survey.
When a survey is worth having
- You are buying or selling a house and bamboo has been noted by a surveyor or on the property information form.
- Bamboo is crossing a boundary and you need an independent record of where it came from and how far it has spread.
- You want to know whether an established stand near the house poses any risk to foundations, drains or paving before committing to removal.
- You need a quotation for treatment or excavation — the survey is how we size that work accurately.
Cost and how to book
Survey fees depend on plot size, access and whether a formal report for a transaction is required; we confirm the fee before booking and, where you go on to instruct removal, it is normally offset against the removal quote. Our bamboo removal cost guide explains the wider price ranges. Call 07582 869979 or use the quote form to arrange a visit.
